RT Academy, the educational arm of the international news network RT, launched its first-ever media course tailored specifically for African journalists.
The program was announced at Botswana's General Assembly of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB). The free online course, offered in both English and French, opened applications via the RT Academy website and was scheduled to begin on October 14. It presented a unique opportunity for aspiring, experienced journalists across Africa to enhance their skills.
Anna Kovtunova, head of RT’s Educational Projects, had highlighted the growing demand for RT Academy’s resources in Africa since the initiative was introduced earlier in the year. "We hope this course will strengthen media collaboration, promote shared interests in regional developments, and help expand RT’s audience across Africa," Kovtunova stated.
The International Journalism course covered essential topics such as live broadcasting, content verification, combating misinformation, social media engagement, filming techniques, and post-production. Led by experienced RT reporters, anchors, and producers, the program aimed to equip participants with comprehensive news production skills. Participants also learned effective on-camera presentation and techniques for creating high-quality video content.
The course provided a significant opportunity for African youth interested in journalism, offering access to top-tier media training at no cost. RT Academy’s program was supported by Rossotrudnichestvo and various regional media organizations, extending its reach across the continent.
Candidates applied through the RT Academy website, where a competitive selection process determined the participants.
